Charleston Construction Defects Firm Hayes Law Helps Settle $11.6 Million Lawsuit

Owners of a residential condominium in Berkeley County, SC built in 2005 and debilitated by construction defects dating almost to its initial completion, have settled with developers and contractors for $11.6 million, the largest legal settlement in South Carolina during the 2019 calendar year, as reported by SC Lawyers Weekly.

Hayes Law Firm, representing the plaintiffs, reported construction issues with the condo including a multitude of defects that required repair to the brick, stucco, and windows. Significant water intrusion to the building was a factor, according to the Charleston, SC construction attorney.

When construction defects were initially reported, the owners of the condominium allowed the builders to attempt to repair the problems until 2017. The owners, developers, and 15 contractors finally reached a settlement after several mediation sessions.

In accordance with a confidentiality agreement, further details about the lawsuit cannot be disclosed.
